About Hoima
Hoima sits in western Uganda, roughly 200 kilometers northwest of Kampala on the road toward the Albertine Rift and Lake Albert. The city has grown rapidly since the early 2010s as the administrative and logistical center of Uganda's nascent oil industry, with the planned Kabaale refinery and the Hoima-Tanga export pipeline anchoring long-term investment. Elevation near 1,100 meters moderates temperatures into a steady mid-20s Celsius year-round, and the rainy seasons fall in March-May and September-November. English and Runyoro are the working languages, with Swahili used in trade. Infrastructure remains uneven: paved roads connect to Kampala and Fort Portal, but utilities and healthcare lag the capital. The proximity to Murchison Falls and Bugungu reserves shapes weekend life for residents.
