About Bishkek

Bishkek is the capital of Kyrgyzstan, a city of about 900,000 on the northern fringe of the Tian Shan mountains in Central Asia. It retains a clearly Soviet planned layout (wide boulevards, low-rise concrete, leafy grids) with the Ala-Too snow line visible from downtown. The economy mixes government, the American University of Central Asia, gold mining administration for Kumtor, and a growing Russian-language remote-worker inflow since 2022. Climate is continental with cold snowy winters and hot dry summers. Russian remains the working language alongside Kyrgyz, English presence is growing but limited. Relocators get genuinely low costs, a 60-day visa-free entry for most Western passports, easy access to high mountain trekking, and a small but real digital-nomad community.
