About Benghazi

Benghazi is the largest city in eastern Libya, sitting on the Mediterranean coast about 1,000 kilometers east of Tripoli with around 757,000 residents. Historically the country's second city and a hub for oil-sector services, it sustained heavy damage during the 2011 revolution and subsequent 2014-2017 conflict, with reconstruction proceeding under the eastern-based government. Relocators face a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, a fragmented Libyan political landscape, and ongoing security considerations including unexploded ordnance and intermittent armed-group activity. Arabic is essential. Foreign presence is largely limited to oil-sector and humanitarian operations under strict security arrangements. Not a viable destination for general expat relocation; included for population-scale completeness.
