About Az Zāwīyah

Az Zāwiyah sits on the Mediterranean coast in northwestern Libya, roughly 50 kilometers west of Tripoli, with roughly 200,000 residents. The city anchors one of the country's most important oil refining nodes, with the Zawiya Oil Refinery handling a significant share of national fuel processing and serving the connected pipeline network from southwestern Libyan fields. For relocation purposes the country's broader political fragmentation since 2011 dominates the picture: armed group competition, periodic clashes around the refinery and adjacent port, and a layered visa and entry regime mean foreign presence is essentially limited to oil-sector contractors on rotation through fortified compounds. Arabic is the working language, the climate is hot dry summer and mild winter typical of the North African coast.
