Why this quality rating
Iran's public system is structured for local families, but it is not an easy public-school choice for relocating expat households.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Even where resident enrollment is possible, Persian-medium instruction and day-to-day local integration make the public route usually impractical for foreign families.
🚫 Homeschooling
Homeschooling not permittedIran requires compulsory school attendance and does not permit homeschooling. Education is heavily regulated by the Ministry of Education with a mandatory national curriculum. No exemptions for homeschooling on philosophical or lifestyle grounds.

About Ahvaz
Ahvaz is the capital of Khuzestan Province in southwestern Iran, a city of about 841,000 sitting on the Karun River in the heart of the country's oil-producing region near the Iraqi border. The economy is heavily tied to upstream oil and the petrochemical complex at Bandar Imam, along with steel through the Ahvaz Steel Company. It is consistently ranked among the hottest cities on Earth, with summer highs regularly above 50 Celsius, and has serious air-quality problems from oil-field dust storms. The Arab-speaking population is the largest in Iran. Persian dominates formally, Arabic widely in daily use. Relocators should weigh genuinely extreme heat, sanctions-restricted banking infrastructure, and an environment effectively closed to most foreign relocators.
