Why this quality rating

India's public-school picture is highly uneven by state and city, with some usable local options but no single predictable expat path.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident enrollment is possible, but the public route is often state-language heavy and quality varies too much for most expat families to treat it as the default.

Homeschooling

Legal, constitutionally protected

India's Right to Education Act focuses on government providing education but does not mandate school attendance. The Supreme Court has upheld parents' right to homeschool. Growing community across major cities. NIOS provides equivalency exams.

About New Delhi, Delhi

New Delhi is the national capital of India, constituted as a planned district within the larger National Capital Territory of Delhi that contains around 30 million residents. Designed by Edwin Lutyens in the early 20th century, the New Delhi area itself houses the central government, foreign embassies, the Supreme Court, and the major boulevards from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate. The broader Delhi metropolis combines services, manufacturing, and trade. Hindi and English are both administrative languages. The climate is humid subtropical with very hot summers, a monsoon, and cool winters with severe air pollution from October through February. Relocators face high diplomatic and corporate expat infrastructure but must weigh air quality and traffic against deep cultural and economic access.
