Why this quality rating
Uganda's public schools can work for local families, but they are not usually the route expat families choose when they have alternatives.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident families may be able to enroll, but classroom conditions and uneven quality make the public route a situational expat choice.
โ Homeschooling
Not specifically regulatedUganda has compulsory education but no specific homeschooling legislation. Some expat families and missionary families homeschool without interference. No formal framework exists.

About Mukono
Mukono sits in central Uganda along the main highway from Kampala to Jinja, roughly 25 kilometers east of the capital. It is a fast-growing peri-urban municipality and the seat of Mukono District, increasingly absorbed into the wider Kampala metropolitan commuter belt while retaining its own commercial and university footprint. Uganda Christian University is the main local institution, alongside agricultural and small industrial activity. The local economy mixes services, education, agriculture (particularly coffee, bananas, and horticulture from the surrounding district), and informal trade tied to the busy highway corridor. Climate is mild equatorial highland thanks to elevation around 1,200 meters, with two rainy seasons and consistently warm but not hot temperatures. For relocators, Kampala's small expat community generally lives in suburbs like Nakasero and Naguru rather than further out in Mukono.
