About Kŭlob
Kūlob is the second-largest city of Tajikistan's Khatlon Region, sitting in the southern part of the country about 200 kilometers southeast of the capital Dushanbe. With roughly 215,000 residents, it serves as a regional commercial and military hub at the edge of the Pamir foothills, with cotton processing, food production, and a regional airport. The continental mountain climate brings hot dry summers and cold winters with occasional snow. Tajik is the official language alongside Russian, which remains widely used in business and government; English is rare. Kūlob is the home region of the country's long-serving president and has received concentrated infrastructure investment, but the city's relocation appeal is narrow: limited corporate employment, modest healthcare, and proximity to the Afghan border shape its profile primarily as a regional posting.
