Why this quality rating

Rwanda has a functioning public-school backbone and more English-medium instruction than many nearby peers, but school-level quality and day-to-day expat fit still vary enough that the public route remains situational.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident families may be able to enroll, but practical fit still depends on school-level language mix, place availability, and comfort with a locally oriented system.

About Gisenyi

Gisenyi is a town in Rubavu District in western Rwanda, on the northern shore of Lake Kivu directly adjacent to the Congolese city of Goma across the international border. It serves as Rwanda's main lakeside resort and is one of the country's busiest border-crossing points for cross-border trade with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The economy combines tourism, agriculture in the surrounding hills, fishing on Lake Kivu, and cross-border commerce. The climate is temperate thanks to elevation around 1,500 meters, with two rainy seasons typical of the equatorial highlands. Kinyarwanda is universal, French and English are official, and Rwanda offers comparatively accessible work permits and a stable security environment.
