About Rustaq

Rustaq lies in northern Oman about 175 kilometers west of Muscat in the Al Batinah South Governorate, set on the inland plain at the foot of the Hajar Mountains. Once the country's capital in the 17th century under the Yaruba dynasty, it remains an agricultural center known for date palms, hot sulfur springs, and a restored 17th-century fort. Population is around 120,000. Climate is hot desert, with summer highs above 45 Celsius and mild winters that draw weekend visitors from Muscat. Relocation here suits oil and gas contractors, teachers on government postings, or remote workers comfortable with a quiet conservative town. English is common in commercial settings, and the new Batinah Expressway puts Muscat International Airport within two hours by car.
