About Manama

Manama is the capital of Bahrain, an island nation in the Persian Gulf connected to Saudi Arabia by the King Fahd Causeway. The economy is built on finance, with Bahrain serving as a regional banking hub since the 1970s, alongside aluminum smelting at Alba and a smaller oil sector than its Gulf neighbors. Roughly half the country's population is expatriate, and Manama is the focal point of that community. English is widely used in business alongside Arabic. The climate is hot desert, with summer temperatures regularly above 40 degrees and very high humidity from the Gulf. Costs are lower than in Dubai or Doha, alcohol is legal, and the social environment is generally more relaxed than in neighboring Saudi Arabia, which drives substantial weekend cross-causeway traffic.
