Why this quality rating

Cote d'Ivoire has a functioning public system, but it is not usually the default schooling path for expat families seeking predictable quality and support.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident enrollment may be possible, but French-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public route a difficult expat option.

Homeschooling

Not specifically addressed

Côte d'Ivoire has compulsory education but no specific homeschooling legislation. Expat families in Abidjan typically use international French-system schools. No formal framework for homeschooling exists.

About Yamoussoukro

Yamoussoukro is the official political capital of Cote d'Ivoire, located inland in the central part of the country about 240 kilometers northwest of Abidjan, which remains the economic capital. It was designated capital in 1983 by President Felix Houphouet-Boigny, who was born nearby, and is best known for the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, modeled on Saint Peter's in Rome. The local economy is oriented around government administration, the Institut National Polytechnique Houphouet-Boigny, and agriculture in the surrounding cocoa and yam belt. The climate is tropical with two rainy seasons. For relocation, Yamoussoukro offers French as the working language, the A3 autoroute to Abidjan, and a quieter administrative-capital lifestyle than the coastal hub.
