Why this quality rating
Nepal's public-school system can work for locally integrated families, but classroom quality and resources vary sharply and most expat households looking for predictability still lean private or international.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident enrollment can be possible, but Nepali-medium instruction and uneven school conditions make the public route a difficult match for most relocating families.
β Homeschooling
Not specifically addressedNepal does not have specific homeschooling regulations. Education is compulsory but alternatives are not well-defined. Some expat families homeschool in Kathmandu.

About Nepalgunj
Nepalgunj sits in the Lumbini Province of southwestern Nepal, in the flat Terai plain immediately adjacent to the Indian border with Uttar Pradesh. Its roughly 170,000 residents live in a city that functions as the primary commercial and transit hub for western Nepal, with cross-border trade with India, agricultural processing from the surrounding rice-and-sugarcane belt, and regional healthcare (Bheri Hospital and the Nepalgunj Medical College) shaping local employment. Nepali is the official language with Awadhi, Tharu, and Hindi all widely spoken reflecting the Indo-Nepali border culture. The climate is humid subtropical with very hot summers, a strong monsoon from June to September, and mild winters with morning fog. Nepalgunj Airport provides direct flights to Kathmandu, making the city the primary air gateway for the remote far-west of Nepal. For relocators, it offers a regional administrative or NGO posting.
