About Sétif

Sétif is a regional capital in northeastern Algeria, sitting on the High Plateaus at roughly 1,100 meters elevation between the Tell Atlas to the north and the Saharan Atlas to the south. That altitude gives the city a distinctly continental Mediterranean climate, with cold, occasionally snowy winters and warm dry summers, in sharp contrast to the humid coastal cities. The economy is anchored by cereal agriculture from the surrounding plateau, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and a substantial light-industrial zone, and the city hosts Ferhat Abbas University, one of Algeria's largest. Arabic and Berber are the working languages alongside widely used French, and the Algerian dinar is the currency. The east-west A1 motorway and the SNTF rail line anchor connections to Algiers, Constantine, and Annaba.
