Why this quality rating
Uzbekistan's public system is improving, especially in Tashkent, but it remains a local-language-first school path rather than an obvious default for internationally mobile families.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident foreign families may be able to enroll, but Uzbek- and Russian-medium instruction make the public route a hard fit unless the family is planning deeper local integration.
📋 Homeschooling
Legal with school supervisionUzbekistan allows individual learning at home for children with documented reasons (health, distance). Families must coordinate with a local school for assessments. Enforcement is limited for expats. Growing digital nomad presence in Tashkent.

Healthcare
System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in Uzbekistan.
Method: country metrics come from public system indicators, facility coverage reflects mapped providers we can inventory, direct pricing only reflects observed self-pay pages, and relative care cost can fall back to broad cost-of-living healthcare indices. Sparse pricing does not imply sparse healthcare availability.

About Samarkand
Samarkand is the second-largest city in Uzbekistan, an ancient Silk Road oasis of roughly 595,000 in the country's southeast, located along the Zarafshan River about 280 kilometers southwest of Tashkent. The economy combines tourism tied to the Registan ensemble and other Timurid monuments, agriculture from the surrounding irrigated valley (cotton, fruit, wine), light manufacturing, and an automotive plant producing GM-Uzbekistan vehicles. The high-speed Afrosiyob rail link to Tashkent in just over two hours has materially integrated the city into the national economy. The climate is continental with hot, dry summers, cold winters, and modest rainfall. Uzbek is the official language, Russian remains widely used, and English is growing in tourism but limited overall. Relocators should weigh visa liberalization since 2018 that has made the country broadly accessible, dependence on Tashkent for major international flights, and modest specialist healthcare.
