About Matuga
Matuga is a small town in Kenya's Kwale County on the southern coast, sitting just inland from the Indian Ocean about 15 kilometers south of Mombasa along the road toward Diani and the Tanzanian border. It functions as a county administrative center and a service town for the surrounding rural area rather than a coastal resort. The local economy mixes agriculture, small trade, and links to the nearby coastal tourism corridor anchored by Diani Beach. Climate is hot wet tropical, with a long rainy season from March to May and a shorter one in October-November. For relocators, the wider Diani area to the south draws far more foreign residents and remote workers; Matuga itself offers limited international services and primarily appeals to those working in county government or local NGOs.
