About Tamale
Tamale is the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana, sitting in the savanna interior roughly 600 kilometers north of Accra, and functions as the largest city and principal commercial hub of northern Ghana. The local economy is built on agricultural trade in shea, maize, yams and livestock, regional government, the University for Development Studies, and a growing NGO and development-sector presence that anchors much of the formal services economy. Dagbani is the dominant local language with English standard for official and business use. Relocators should weigh a hot tropical savanna climate with a long dry Harmattan season and a single rainy season from April to October, infrastructure that is Tier 2 by Ghanaian standards including Tamale International Airport, and a security context that is calm by regional standards though sensitive to spillover from the Sahel.
