Why this quality rating

Ghana is unusual in West Africa for having English as the official instruction language throughout public schooling. Quality varies widely. Accra has a growing private and international school ecosystem for expat families.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident families can enroll in public schools with English-medium instruction. Quality and infrastructure vary by district; private schools are common for expat families wanting higher quality.

โ“ Homeschooling

Not specifically regulated

Ghana does not have specific homeschooling laws. Basic education is free and compulsory, but homeschooling is not explicitly prohibited. Some families homeschool in Accra without interference.

About Koforidua

Koforidua is the capital of Ghana's Eastern Region, located in the forested Akuapem-Togo hills about eighty-five kilometers north of Accra. The city of roughly 151,000 people functions as a regional administrative and trading center, with cocoa, oil palm, and timber from the surrounding hinterland passing through alongside small manufacturing and the well-known Thursday bead market at Agomanya nearby. The cooler hill climate is a real distinction from coastal Accra, with milder nights and noticeably less humidity. Twi and English dominate daily life, and the road link to Accra puts the capital within about a two-hour drive. For relocators, Koforidua is a manageable secondary Ghanaian city with stronger air quality than Accra but thinner job market depth.
