About Kalaban Koro

Kalaban Koro is a rapidly growing suburb on the south bank of the Niger River across from central Bamako, the capital of Mali. Its population of around 148,200 has expanded sharply over the past two decades as Bamako has overflowed across the river, and the area now functions as a dense commuter settlement linked to the city center by bridge traffic that is notoriously congested at peak hours. The local economy combines residential services, small-scale trade, and a sizable informal sector, with most employment dependent on the wider Bamako labor market. Bambara and French are both widely used. The Sahelian climate produces a hot dry season and a short wet season. For relocators, Kalaban Koro is principally a low-cost Bamako commuter area whose practical conditions are shaped by Mali's broader security situation.
