About Sikasso

Sikasso is the capital of the Sikasso Region in southern Mali, near the borders with Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Guinea, in the country's relatively well-watered south. It is a regional rather than national capital and serves as the principal city of Mali's agricultural heartland, producing cotton, mangoes, sugarcane, and cereals; mango exports to Europe are a significant local industry. Bambara is the working language alongside French as the official language. The climate is tropical savanna, milder than the Sahelian north, with a clear rainy season from June to October and warm dry conditions the rest of the year. Relocation drivers are narrow and largely tied to agriculture, regional trade, and humanitarian or development work; the broader security situation in central and northern Mali shapes the operating context.
