Why this quality rating

Indonesia's public system is not the route most expat families choose when they have alternatives.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident access may be possible, but Indonesian-medium instruction and uneven quality make the public path a hard sell for foreign families.

๐Ÿ“‹ Homeschooling

Legal (recognized alternative)

Homeschooling is recognized under the Indonesian National Education System. Must register with the local education office. Students can take national exams (Paket A/B/C equivalency exams) to receive official certificates. Growing community in Bali and Jakarta.

About Depok, Java

Depok sits immediately south of Jakarta in West Java, Indonesia, and functions essentially as a commuter and university city within the broader Jabodetabek megaregion. It is home to the main campus of Universitas Indonesia, which shapes much of the local economy and the rental market around Margonda and the Beji area. KRL commuter rail connects Depok to central Jakarta in under an hour, which is the main reason many Jakarta workers settle here for cheaper housing. For relocators the trade-offs are heavy daily commuter traffic on Margonda Raya, limited international school options compared with South Jakarta or Tangerang Selatan, and a foreign community concentrated mainly around the university rather than the broader expat-business neighborhoods of the capital.
