Why this quality rating

India's public-school picture is highly uneven by state and city, with some usable local options but no single predictable expat path.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident enrollment is possible, but the public route is often state-language heavy and quality varies too much for most expat families to treat it as the default.

โœ… Homeschooling

Legal, constitutionally protected

India's Right to Education Act focuses on government providing education but does not mandate school attendance. The Supreme Court has upheld parents' right to homeschool. Growing community across major cities. NIOS provides equivalency exams.

Healthcare

System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in India.

Method: country metrics come from public system indicators, facility coverage reflects mapped providers we can inventory, direct pricing only reflects observed self-pay pages, and relative care cost can fall back to broad cost-of-living healthcare indices. Sparse pricing does not imply sparse healthcare availability.

About Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore is the second-largest city in Tamil Nadu, India, sitting at the base of the Western Ghats in the textile and engineering belt of the western part of the state. It has historically been known as the Manchester of South India for its cotton mills and is now also a major hub for pumps, motors, wet grinders, and increasingly IT services around Tidel Park and surrounding tech zones. Costs sit well below Chennai or Bangalore, the climate is moderated by elevation and Ghats proximity, and Tamil is the dominant spoken language with strong English use in business. For relocators the relevant trade-offs are limited international flight connectivity outside Singapore and Gulf routes, and a smaller foreign community than Chennai despite a comparable engineering economy.
