Why this quality rating

India's public-school picture is highly uneven by state and city, with some usable local options but no single predictable expat path.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident enrollment is possible, but the public route is often state-language heavy and quality varies too much for most expat families to treat it as the default.

โœ… Homeschooling

Legal, constitutionally protected

India's Right to Education Act focuses on government providing education but does not mandate school attendance. The Supreme Court has upheld parents' right to homeschool. Growing community across major cities. NIOS provides equivalency exams.

Healthcare

System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in India.

Method: country metrics come from public system indicators, facility coverage reflects mapped providers we can inventory, direct pricing only reflects observed self-pay pages, and relative care cost can fall back to broad cost-of-living healthcare indices. Sparse pricing does not imply sparse healthcare availability.

About Chandigarh

Chandigarh is the shared capital of the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana and is itself a separately administered Union Territory, set on the plains below the Shivalik Hills. It was planned in the 1950s by Le Corbusier as India's first modernist new city, with strict sector-based zoning, wide boulevards, and dedicated green belts that still define daily life. Relocators should weigh Chandigarh as one of India's most orderly and affluent mid-sized cities, with strong schools, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, and an unusually walkable and cycle-friendly layout. The climate is humid subtropical with hot summers and a cold-snap winter. Hindi, Punjabi, and English are all in daily use.
