Why this quality rating
Egypt's public-school system is not the route most internationally mobile families choose when they have private or international alternatives.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident access can exist, but Arabic-medium instruction, crowding, and uneven quality make the public route a hard sell for most expat families.
π Homeschooling
Legal with MOE supervisionEgypt allows homeschooling under certain conditions with Ministry of Education oversight. Students must be enrolled in a school for official exams. The process is bureaucratic. Many expat families in Cairo use international schools instead. American and British school options are extensive.

About Assiut
Assiut is the largest city in Upper Egypt, on the Nile roughly 375 km south of Cairo, with an economy combining agriculture from the surrounding Nile valley (cotton, wheat, sugarcane), pharmaceutical and cement manufacturing, and Assiut University, one of Egypt's largest. The city has a substantial Coptic Christian population with historically significant communities and monasteries in the surrounding region. Arabic is essential and English appears in academic and business contexts. Climate is hot desert with extreme summer heat moderated by the river. Costs sit dramatically below Cairo, and rail and the new high-speed line are improving connectivity. Healthcare and international schooling are limited beyond university hospital capacity. Practical mainly for academics, agricultural professionals, and Egyptians with regional ties.
