Why this quality rating
Egypt's public-school system is not the route most internationally mobile families choose when they have private or international alternatives.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Resident access can exist, but Arabic-medium instruction, crowding, and uneven quality make the public route a hard sell for most expat families.
📋 Homeschooling
Legal with MOE supervisionEgypt allows homeschooling under certain conditions with Ministry of Education oversight. Students must be enrolled in a school for official exams. The process is bureaucratic. Many expat families in Cairo use international schools instead. American and British school options are extensive.

About Al Maḩallah al Kubrá
Al Mahalla al Kubra is a major industrial city in Egypt's Nile Delta with roughly 593,000 residents in the Gharbia Governorate, located between Cairo and Alexandria roughly 110 kilometers north of the capital. The local economy is dominated by the Misr Spinning and Weaving Company, the largest textile manufacturer in the Middle East and a single-site employer of tens of thousands, alongside food processing and agriculture from the surrounding delta farmland. The city has been the recurring epicenter of major Egyptian labor movements, including the 2008 strikes that helped seed the 2011 revolution. The climate is hot Mediterranean with mild winters and hot, humid summers shaped by delta moisture. Arabic is the working language and English is thin outside specific business circles. Relocators should weigh currency depreciation against the dollar, dependence on Cairo for international flights, and provincial infrastructure compared with Cairo or Alexandria.
