About Kwekwe

Kwekwe lies in Zimbabwe's Midlands Province roughly midway between Harare and Bulawayo on the main highway and rail line, with a population around 120,000. The city was built on the Globe and Phoenix gold mine and the Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company at Redcliff, and although ZISCO has been dormant for years, small-scale gold mining and steel rerolling still anchor the economy alongside cattle ranching and maize agriculture. Climate is subtropical highveld at roughly 1,200 meters elevation, with warm wet summers and cool dry winters. English is the language of business; Shona dominates daily life. Relocation here is uncommon outside of mining-sector returnees and missionary or NGO staff; Harare's airport is roughly two and a half hours by road.
