About Kadoma
Kadoma is a city in the Mashonaland West province of Zimbabwe, located about 140 kilometres southwest of Harare on the Harare-Bulawayo highway and rail line. It was historically a gold-mining and cotton-ginning centre, with the Cam and Motor mine that anchored the colonial-era settlement now closed and Eiffel Flats nearby still producing. The local economy today combines textile manufacturing, the David Whitehead mill, agriculture, and a regional hospital and training institutions including Kadoma Polytechnic. The high-veld climate produces warm summers and mild, dry winters that occasionally drop near freezing at night. English is the official language and Shona is universal. Infrastructure has degraded substantially since 2000, with chronic power outages and water-supply problems typical of Zimbabwean urban areas.
