About Mutare

Mutare is Zimbabwe's fourth-largest city and the gateway to Mozambique, sitting in a mountain valley of the Eastern Highlands roughly 8 kilometers from the Forbes border post and 263 kilometers east of Harare. The Beira Corridor through Mutare carries much of landlocked Zimbabwe's import-export traffic to the Indian Ocean port of Beira. The local economy combines timber from surrounding pine plantations, paper milling at the Mutare board mill, fruit production from the Vumba and Honde Valley, and informal cross-border trade. The altitude near 1,100 meters tempers the climate, producing cool nights and mild dry winters from May to August. English is official alongside Shona. Persistent macroeconomic instability and currency volatility remain the central practical challenges for any relocator considering Zimbabwe.
