About El Dibir

El Dibir is a settlement of roughly 200,000 residents in the Federal Republic of Somalia, sitting within a country whose political geography remains divided across the Federal Government in Mogadishu, the de facto independent Somaliland in the north, the Puntland autonomous region in the northeast, and the Al-Shabaab insurgency contesting rural areas. The local economy follows the broader Somali pattern of livestock, remittances from the diaspora, and informal trade. For relocation purposes Somalia remains one of the world's most restrictive operational environments for foreigners: most international presence operates from fortified compounds in Mogadishu or Hargeisa, Somali is the working language with Arabic and English used in formal contexts, and standard visa and residency pathways for non-aid workers effectively do not exist.
