About Bandar Lampung, Sumatra
Bandar Lampung is the capital of Lampung province in Indonesia, with about 1.17 million residents on the southern tip of Sumatra opposite Java across the Sunda Strait. It is the principal gateway between Sumatra and Java by ferry through the Bakauheni-Merak crossing, and the new Trans-Sumatra Toll Road has substantially improved its road logistics. The local economy combines coffee, palm oil, and rubber agribusiness with a growing port and manufacturing function. Climate is tropical with a wet season from October through April and serious seismic and volcanic exposure given proximity to Krakatoa. Relocators should weigh that Bandar Lampung is a working Sumatran gateway city rather than an expat hub: Bahasa Indonesia is essential, and Krakatoa-related risks are a real long-horizon consideration.
