Healthcare

System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in Haiti.

About Cap-Haïtien

Cap-Haitien sits on the north coast of Haiti, on the Bay of Cap-Haitien, and is the country's second-largest city after Port-au-Prince. The city was the colonial capital of French Saint-Domingue and remains the commercial centre for Haiti's northern region, with port activity, agriculture in the surrounding plain, and limited tourism around the nearby Citadelle Laferriere UNESCO site. For relocators, Cap-Haitien is shaped by Haiti's broader and severe security and governance crisis, which has intensified since the 2021 presidential assassination and the subsequent collapse of state authority across much of the country. French and Haitian Creole are the working languages. The climate is tropical with distinct wet and dry seasons. Hurricane exposure during the Caribbean season is significant.
