About Arcahaie
Arcahaie sits on Haiti's central coast, about 50 kilometers north of Port-au-Prince along Route Nationale 1 between the capital and Saint-Marc. Population is roughly 130,000 across the commune, much of it rural and agricultural. The town is historically significant as the place where the Haitian flag was created in 1803 and is the center of Haiti's commercial banana-growing area on the Cul-de-Sac plain. Climate is tropical with a hot wet season from April to October and a drier cooler stretch through the early year, with hurricane exposure from June to November. Haiti's prolonged security collapse since 2021 has made nearly all of the country off-limits for foreign relocation, with armed-group control extending well beyond Port-au-Prince and most embassies advising against any travel. Local conditions vary block by block and shift week to week.
