About Warder
Warder is a town in the Somali Region of eastern Ethiopia, in the arid Ogaden plateau near the border with Somalia. The recorded population of around 450,000 reflects the wider woreda rather than a dense urban footprint, and the local economy is dominated by pastoralism, livestock trade, and small-scale commerce supplying surrounding nomadic communities. Relocators should approach this realistically: infrastructure is minimal, security conditions can fluctuate with regional instability, electricity and water supply are intermittent, and there is no commercial airport or paved long-distance corridor comparable to the central highlands. Somali is the working language, and almost no expatriate presence exists outside humanitarian operations linked to UN and NGO programs.
