About Favoriten
Favoriten is the tenth district of Vienna, Austria, rather than a separate city, with about 202,000 residents, making it the most populous of the city's 23 districts. It sits south of the historic core around the Wienerberg ridge and was developed in the late nineteenth century as a working-class brick-making and railway district built around the Südbahnhof; the modern Hauptbahnhof and the surrounding Sonnwendviertel are now Vienna's principal high-speed rail gateway and a recently completed mixed-use redevelopment. The district has the highest share of foreign-born residents in the city, with large Turkish, Serbian, and former-Yugoslav communities, and German is dominant alongside Turkish and BCMS in daily life. The U1 metro line runs the length of the district. The climate is continental with cold winters and warm summers; housing is among the cheapest inside Vienna's gemeindebau-rich rental market.
