About Donaustadt

Donaustadt is the 22nd district of Vienna, Austria, and the largest of the city's districts by area, occupying the flat plain northeast of the Danube. It is the youngest part of central Vienna in development terms, with extensive postwar housing estates, the United Nations Office at Vienna in the Donau City complex, and large protected nature areas along the Lobau floodplain. The U1 and U2 metro lines connect the district directly to the inner city in around 15 minutes. Major employers include the international organizations at the UN complex, the OMV oil and gas headquarters, and a growing cluster of services around Kagran. The district is also notable for the Donauinsel, the artificial recreation island that runs along its western edge. For UN staff, families, or workers in northeast Vienna's office parks, Donaustadt combines metro access, green space, and lower rents than the inner districts.
