About Pyeongtaek
Pyeongtaek is a city in Gyeonggi Province of South Korea, sitting on the west coast roughly 70 kilometers south of Seoul. It hosts Camp Humphreys, the largest United States military base outside the continental US, and Pyeongtaek Port, a major automobile export terminal handling much of Hyundai-Kia's outbound shipping. These two facilities define the local economy and demographics, giving the city an unusually large American military and contractor presence concentrated in the Anjeong-ri area near the base. The climate is humid continental with cold winters and hot humid summers. Korean is the working language with English widely used near the base. Relocation here is overwhelmingly tied to USFK military, contractor, or DoDEA school postings rather than independent expat moves.
