About Man’gyŏngdae-ri
Mangyŏngdae-ri is a district on the southwestern outskirts of Pyongyang in North Korea, best known as the official birthplace of Kim Il-sung and a centerpiece of state ideology. It functions as part of the capital's administrative area rather than an independent city, with land use dominated by memorial sites, agricultural plots, and residential blocks for vetted families. Foreign relocation is effectively impossible: North Korea does not issue ordinary residence permits to outsiders, and movement within the country is tightly controlled. Practical context for relocators is therefore limited to diplomats and the rare humanitarian worker assigned to Pyongyang itself. Climate is continental, with cold dry winters and warm humid summers typical of the central Korean peninsula.
