About North Shore
North Shore refers to the former North Shore City area of Auckland, New Zealand, with about 259,000 residents, now amalgamated into Auckland Council as the suburban belt north of Waitematā Harbour. It runs from Devonport opposite the CBD up to Albany and includes Takapuna, the de facto commercial centre of the area. The economy mixes professional services, light industry around Wairau Valley, and a strong residential base for Auckland CBD commuters who cross via the Auckland Harbour Bridge or the Northern Busway. The climate is warm temperate oceanic, mild year-round. English is universal, with significant Chinese and Korean immigrant communities, and housing is among the more expensive in New Zealand though slightly below the inner CBD suburbs.
