Why this quality rating

Namibia uses English in the public system and has some workable urban schools, but quality still varies materially by location and resources. Windhoek offers stronger options than the national average.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident foreign families can generally use public schools in principle, and English helps. The main constraint is uneven quality, which is why many expat families still prefer private schools in Windhoek.

πŸ“‹ Homeschooling

Legal with registration

Namibia permits homeschooling with registration with the Ministry of Education and Culture. Parents must submit a curriculum plan and students take Grade 10 and Grade 12 examinations through the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate. Growing expat community.

About Swakopmund

Swakopmund is a coastal town of about 53,000 in Namibia where the Namib Desert meets the Atlantic, distinguished by preserved German colonial architecture from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and a continuing German-speaking community alongside Namibian populations. The local economy combines tourism, fishing, services for the nearby uranium mining sector and the port of Walvis Bay 30 kilometers south, and a long-established second-home market for Namibian, South African, and German owners. English is the official national language, with German and Afrikaans still actively used locally. The climate is unusually cool for the latitude because of the Benguela current, with frequent fog and limited rainfall. Swakopmund suits relocators wanting a calm, well-built Namibian coastal base.
