About Benguela

Benguela is a coastal city in western Angola, capital of Benguela Province, with a Portuguese colonial core, a working port, and a long Atlantic beach front. The economy combines fishing, the port, the rehabilitated Benguela Railway running inland to the Democratic Republic of Congo's copper belt, and tourism oriented to domestic and regional visitors. The climate is mild semi-arid, cooler than equatorial Africa thanks to the Benguela current. Portuguese is essential and English limited. Practical realities include intermittent power and water, expensive imported goods, and a healthcare tier that pushes serious cases to Luanda or abroad. A plausible base for oil-and-gas services, logistics, or fisheries professionals, less so for general remote-work relocators.
