Why this quality rating

Myanmar's public-school system is not a realistic default path for most expat families, especially given current instability.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Even where resident enrollment is possible, Burmese-medium instruction and current system disruption make the public route usually unattractive for expat households.

โ“ Homeschooling

Not specifically regulated
Minimal requirements

Myanmar requires compulsory primary education but does not have a clear homeschooling framework. Enforcement varies significantly. Many expat families in Yangon (prior to instability) homeschooled without formal approval. The current political situation makes this largely academic.

About Meiktila

Meiktila sits in the central dry zone of Myanmar in Mandalay Region, on the shore of Meiktila Lake about 130 kilometers south of Mandalay along the main Yangon-Mandalay highway and railway. It is a major transport crossroads and hosts the Central Air Command of the Myanmar Air Force at the adjacent airbase along with the country's main air force academy, giving the city a substantial military footprint. The surrounding plain produces sesame, sunflower, cotton, and pulses on rain-fed and tank-irrigated land. Burmese is the working language. For relocation, the realities are a hot semi-arid climate with limited rainfall, the broader security and economic instability across Myanmar since 2021 including periodic clashes in the surrounding districts, and unreliable infrastructure outside the central highway corridor.
