Why this quality rating
Myanmar's public-school system is not a realistic default path for most expat families, especially given current instability.
Why the expat-access rating looks like this
Even where resident enrollment is possible, Burmese-medium instruction and current system disruption make the public route usually unattractive for expat households.
β Homeschooling
Not specifically regulatedMyanmar requires compulsory primary education but does not have a clear homeschooling framework. Enforcement varies significantly. Many expat families in Yangon (prior to instability) homeschooled without formal approval. The current political situation makes this largely academic.

About Kyaukpyu
Kyaukpyu sits on Ramree Island on the western coast of Myanmar in Rakhine State, facing the Bay of Bengal. The town has become strategically important because it is the Bay of Bengal terminus of the China-Myanmar oil and gas pipelines that cross the country to Yunnan province, and it is the planned site of a deep-sea port and special economic zone backed by Chinese investment as part of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor. Burmese is the working language, with Rakhine widely spoken. For relocation, the realities are extremely demanding: a tropical monsoon climate with heavy rains, the deep ethnic and security conflict that has affected Rakhine State and the broader Myanmar civil conflict since 2021, and limited reliable air and road access from the rest of the country.
