About Salmiya

Salmiya occupies a dense coastal stretch of Kuwait along the Arabian Gulf, just east of Kuwait City and accessible via the Gulf Road that runs the length of the waterfront. The district has become the primary expatriate residential hub of the country, with high-rise apartment towers, the Marina Mall complex, and a long public corniche. Work for most residents is in Kuwait City's oil-services, finance, and government sectors. The climate is among the harshest in the Gulf, with summer temperatures routinely exceeding 45 degrees and frequent dust storms. Arabic is official but English is the working language across most international businesses. Long-term settlement is constrained by the kafala sponsorship system, which ties residency to an employer rather than to any path toward permanent status.
