About Ahmadi
Ahmadi is the seat of Kuwait's Ahmadi Governorate, the same planned company town built by the Kuwait Oil Company in the 1940s to house workers serving the Burgan field which contains a substantial share of Kuwait's proven oil reserves. The local economy is built almost entirely on the upstream and midstream oil industry, including the Mina al-Ahmadi export terminal and refinery complex on the nearby coast. Relocators are almost exclusively expatriate engineers and oilfield specialists assigned to KOC, KNPC, or service contractors, with employer-sponsored residency the standard arrangement. English is widely used in corporate settings, Arabic in administrative ones. Trade-offs include strict alcohol-free conditions, extreme summer heat regularly above 48 Celsius, and a quiet residential atmosphere compared to Kuwait City.
