About Léogâne

Leogane sits on Haiti's southern coast, roughly 30 kilometres west of Port-au-Prince, and is the city closest to the epicentre of the catastrophic 2010 Haiti earthquake, which devastated much of the urban area. The local economy has historically combined sugarcane and agriculture in the surrounding plain with fishing and limited manufacturing. For relocators, Leogane is shaped by Haiti's broader and severe security and governance crisis, which has intensified since the 2021 presidential assassination and the subsequent collapse of state authority across much of the country, including the corridor between Port-au-Prince and the southern peninsula. French and Haitian Creole are the working languages. The climate is tropical with distinct wet and dry seasons. Hurricane exposure during the Caribbean season is significant.
