About Kindia

Kindia is a city in western Guinea, capital of Kindia Region, with about 165,000 residents. It sits roughly 130 kilometers northeast of Conakry, the national capital, on the Conakry-Kankan road and the Conakry-Niger railway corridor, in the foothills below the Fouta Djallon highlands. The local economy is built around bauxite mining (Guinea holds the world's largest bauxite reserves and the surrounding region is a major production area), agriculture from the fertile lowlands, and serving as a regional trading hub. French is the official language with several local languages including Susu and Pular widely spoken. The climate is tropical with a pronounced wet season from May through October driven by the West African monsoon. For relocation, foreign-resident infrastructure is concentrated almost entirely in Conakry, and Kindia presence is typically tied to mining operations.
