About Conakry
Conakry is the capital of Guinea, built on the narrow Kaloum peninsula and the adjacent Tombo Island on West Africa's Atlantic coast. The economy is dominated by the country's role as a top global producer of bauxite, with port operations and Chinese-financed mining infrastructure shaping much of the urban periphery. For relocators the foreign presence is concentrated in mining services, NGOs, and a small diplomatic community in the Kaloum and Camayenne districts. French is essential, electricity and water supply are unreliable outside generator-equipped compounds, and the political environment has been volatile since the 2021 coup. Climate is tropical with a pronounced May-to-November rainy season that produces some of the heaviest rainfall on the African coast.
