About Bamenda
Bamenda is the largest city of Cameroon's English-speaking Northwest Region, sitting on the Cameroon highlands at around 1,600 meters elevation. With around 420,000 residents, the local economy historically mixed agriculture, commerce, and craft production, with the city serving as the unofficial capital of Cameroon's Anglophone community. Relocators should be candid about current conditions: the Northwest and Southwest Regions have been the site of an ongoing Anglophone separatist conflict since 2016, with security conditions that have constrained business, movement, and foreign presence meaningfully. Healthcare infrastructure has been strained, foreign presence is largely tied to humanitarian and diplomatic operations, and English is the regional working language alongside French and local Cameroonian languages.
