Using curated quality notes for now.

Why this quality rating

Zambia is more English-friendly than many neighboring systems because English is the main language of formal instruction, but public-school quality still varies materially by district and resources are uneven.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident foreign families can often use public schools in principle, and English reduces the language barrier. In practice, many expat families in Lusaka still choose private or international schools for consistency.

โ“ Homeschooling

Not specifically regulated

Zambia has compulsory education laws but no specific homeschooling framework. Some families use correspondence courses. ZECHS exams are available for homeschooled students for certification. Growing community in Lusaka.

busminibus

Livingstone is easy enough to navigate at a tourism-city scale, but everyday mobility is still lightly structured and road-led.

Rideshare

Taxi-first, limited app coverage

Families should expect hotel transfers, taxis, and arranged drivers to matter more than broad app-hailed coverage.

Healthcare

System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in Zambia.

Method: country metrics come from public system indicators, facility coverage reflects mapped providers we can inventory, direct pricing only reflects observed self-pay pages, and relative care cost can fall back to broad cost-of-living healthcare indices. Sparse pricing does not imply sparse healthcare availability.

About Livingstone

Livingstone sits on the north bank of the Zambezi river in the Southern Province of Zambia, immediately above Victoria Falls and facing the Zimbabwean border town of Victoria Falls across the gorge. It is Zambia's main tourism gateway, with Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport handling international visitors and the local economy heavily oriented around the falls, rafting, and game viewing in the surrounding Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. English is the working language, with Tonga and Lozi widely spoken. For relocation, the practical context is a hot semi-arid climate with a wet season from November to March, dependence on the tourism cycle and seasonal river levels for much of the formal economy, and road access via the T1 highway to Lusaka in about seven hours and across the Victoria Falls Bridge into Zimbabwe.
