Why this quality rating

Turkey's public schools can work for local families, but expat fit is weaker and the public path is not usually the obvious choice when alternatives exist.

Why the expat-access rating looks like this

Resident enrollment is possible, but Turkish-medium instruction and uneven school quality make the public route hard for most foreign families.

🚫 Homeschooling

Homeschooling not legal

Turkey requires compulsory school attendance. Homeschooling is not permitted under current law. Foreign residents are technically subject to the same rules, though enforcement varies for non-citizens.

Healthcare

System strength, outcome signals, facility coverage, and self-pay visibility in Turkey.

Method: country metrics come from public system indicators, facility coverage reflects mapped providers we can inventory, direct pricing only reflects observed self-pay pages, and relative care cost can fall back to broad cost-of-living healthcare indices. Sparse pricing does not imply sparse healthcare availability.

About Gaziantep

Gaziantep is a major city in southeastern Turkey, sitting on the historic Silk Road route near the Syrian border, and has grown rapidly over the past two decades on the back of food processing, textiles, and machinery exports. It is widely regarded as one of Turkey's most important culinary cities, particularly for pistachio-based sweets and kebab traditions, and hosts UNESCO-recognized craft industries. The city absorbed a very large Syrian refugee population after 2011, which reshaped neighborhoods and the labor market significantly. For relocators the relevant trade-offs are exposure to the lingering effects of the February 2023 earthquakes that hit the broader region hard, a small Western expat community, Turkish-dominant daily life, and a cost base meaningfully below Istanbul or the Aegean coast.
